INTRODUCTION
Tailored bookkeeping for small businesses
Jocelyn Hudson is the owner of Your Place or Mine Bookkeeping (YPOM), operating out of Perth, Australia. Since 2001, Jocelyn has provided bookkeeping and BAS services for clients all over Perth, with flexibility and a personal touch.
Seeking a more flexible working arrangement so she could spend more time with her kids, Jocelyn transitioned from working in a bank to bookkeeping. Over time, she found it hard to say “no” to new clients and take on more work. She was at a crossroads: “I either need to take on staff or start saying no to clients.” From 2011, Jocelyn started taking on more clients and employing more bookkeepers to grow her business.
As the owner of YPOM, Jocelyn has supported her clients through it all, from the Global Financial Crisis to COVID. She has made it a priority to help steer her clients in the right direction for compliance and make sure no stone is unturned when finding grants and government support for small businesses in Perth.
Part of being a bookkeeper is staying current with industry changes and the latest in accounting and bookkeeping technology. Since becoming a Reckon Accredited Partner and a member of the Institute of Chartered Bookkeepers (ICB), Jocelyn has found that she has the tools to go the extra mile for her clients and their small businesses.
THE CHALLENGE
Bookkeepers need to think outside the box. There’s not one set way of doing things.
The challenge of being a bookkeeper is having the right approach for different clients. It’s not one size fits all, particularly when it comes to payroll. For Jocelyn, with clients in industries ranging from electricians to charter vehicle companies, taking the time to sit down and discuss bookkeeping and strategise is very important.
Jocelyn knows that having the right software can bring peace of mind to her clients when it comes to compliance. As with business, the challenge is ensuring that the right solution fits her clientele’s needs.

“There’s not one set way of doing things. You’ve got so many clients from so many industries. You’ve got different software that you can use, and everyone’s needs are different, and everyone likes doing things differently. So you’ve got to be flexible in how you deal with everyone.”

“If cost is a factor, then Reckon is very reasonable. If you have a small business and your needs align, then I can’t see why you can’t use Reckon. It does most of the things you want it to.”
OUR SOLUTION
Since joining Reckon, I’ve never looked back. They’re friendly, welcoming, and we all help each other.
Jocelyn is hands-on with her clients; she believes that helping a customer means providing them with solutions and the know-how. That’s why she believes that Reckon has your back when it comes to accounting software.
Jocelyn is confident that Reckon is only a call away if you need help with Single Touch Payroll, EOFY finalisations, BAS, or other accounting software enquiries.
“What is something I like about Reckon? You can still contact support. It’s always email or chat boxes with other companies, but at Reckon, you can get them on the phone. When you need something done, and done now, they’re there.”
